The Belfry Hotel & Resort has further underlined its standing as one of the world’s leading golf resorts after it was ranked in Europe’s top three golf destinations for customer service by 59club, the market leader in performance measurement for golf, leisure, spa and events.

The 59club’s Golf Visitor Experience Audit – which takes place every month to benchmark customer service within golf clubs and resorts – ranks performance across a number of key areas, with The Belfry recording one of the highest overall customer service scores. This places the four-time Ryder Cup resort in the top three for customer service across Europe this August, following 59club’s extensive mystery shopping assessments at some of the very best golf venues in the continent.

Ranking considerably above the ‘Podium’ average – taken from the top three best performing scores in Europe – were The Belfry’s services within Tee Time Reservation (97.1% compared to 87.8%) and its award-winning Golf Shop, which achieved a remarkable 100% rating. The four-time Ryder Cup Brabazon course also performed supremely within the ‘On Course Presentation’ category, scoring 97.1%, whilst The Belfry was placed higher than the Podium average for its Food & Beverage and Practice Area services.

“Here at The Belfry we work extremely hard to ensure the customer experience is as good as anywhere in the world and the latest 59club rankings are testament to the terrific hospitality delivered by the whole team here at the resort,” said The Belfry’s Director of Golf Chris Reeve. “Golfers who come to The Belfry expect a VIP experience, no matter what time of year they visit – and that’s right from the moment they book their tee time or package to when they leave.

“We’ve recently invested significantly in staff training, which continues to help us offer a level of service renowned across Europe,” added Reeve. “Our goal is to provide an unrivalled service every single day and to set the benchmark for customer satisfaction.”

Matt Roberts, 59club director said: “I share The Belfry’s enthusiasm for celebrating their ‘59club Golf Visitor Experience Mystery Shop Audit’ this August – it’s the personal victory they deserve.

“The success last month was a culmination of the new focus that Chris Reeve brought with him when he joined The Belfry earlier this year,” added Roberts. “He wasted no time in putting a plan together to ensure his desire of wanting the club to compete at the highest possible level was realised.

“We arranged a schedule of 59club training days to further boost performance by developing staff understanding of the 59club sales and service principals,” continued Roberts. “Training focused predominantly in golf operations; including administration elements, golf retail techniques, on course services and upselling. Clearly the latest set of results is testament to the staff having put this knowledge into

practice. I look forward to watching their progression over the next few months and to engaging with the team in our next training meeting.”

Meanwhile, The Belfry Hotel & Resort has also been recognised with nominations in three separate categories at the World Travel Awards, which are set to take place later this month. Looking to add to its growing number of accolades and having been crowned ‘England’s Leading Resort’ in both 2015 and 2016, the awards see The Belfry nominated once again in this category, as well as ‘Europe’s Leading Resort’ and ‘England’s Leading Conference Hotel’.

On top of this, The Belfry’s HR processes have also recently gained great recognition – further cementing the resort’s unrivalled reputation for excellence in customer service. The People Awards and Hotel Cateys see The Belfry shortlisted for the ‘HR Team’ category, whilst in the HR in Hospitality Awards for Excellence, the resort has been nominated in two categories; ‘Excellence in Talent Attraction’ and ‘HR Team of the Year’.

Some of golf’s most iconic moments have taken place at The Belfry Hotel & Resort, but on Wednesday the resort’s brand ambassador Stuart Broad created his own special bit of history as he edged out fellow English cricket compatriot Joe Root in a Ryder Cup challenge match on the famous Brabazon course.

Facing the same course layout as the 2002 Ryder Cup contest, including identical pin positions, Broad, a three-time Ashes winner, led his Belfry team to victory against a Village Hotels side headed up by England Test captain and fellow keen golfer, Root. The challenge match – which also followed Ryder Cup team scoring – saw Broad’s Belfry elect claim a thoroughly-competitive 4-2 win, with both teams featuring clients and VIPs from The Belfry and Village Hotels respectively.

“It really was an amazing day and I’d like to thank everyone involved in making it happen, especially those at The Belfry for their hospitality,” said Broad. “It was a close match, but one that everyone thoroughly enjoyed!”
One of the highlights of the day saw The Belfry Hotel & Resort ambassador take on the iconic Par-4 10th hole on The Brabazon, emulating the late Seve Ballesteros by driving the green.

“I love playing the Brabazon course,” added Broad. “Its layout makes you want to attempt tricky shots that you wouldn’t usually try, you end up taking the options the pros do and, when you get it right, there is no better feeling on a golf course; the 10th being a perfect example of this.”

As well as the team competition, the enthralling day incorporated an Official PGA Tournament Officer, who introduced the players onto the 1st tee, whilst a prizegiving afterwards saw Broad’s team presented with miniature replica Ryder Cup trophies.
The day finished with a drinks reception, BBQ and Q&A led by former Scottish rugby star Bryan Redpath. The event was also supported by Be The Stars Posters, including the provision of prestigious memorabilia.

With The Belfry being so close to home, Nottinghamshire cricketer Broad enjoys playing and relaxing at the luxury resort and soaking up the first-class leisure facilities on offer from The Spa to The Ryder Grill.

The Belfry Hotel & Resort is set to celebrate a very special summer as it marks 40 years of its iconic Brabazon golf course, the only venue in the world to have hosted the Ryder Cup on four occasions.

Co-designed by the late Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss in 1977, The Brabazon has witnessed some of the most memorable moments in golfing history – and now golfers can make their own chapter for just £40 when teeing off after 3pm during a weekday in July.

Meanwhile, for golfers seeking the ultimate experience on the course made famous by the likes of Seve Ballesteros and Nick Faldo, The Belfry has also introduced a special Golf Summer Offer that ensures a round on The Brabazon, an overnight stay, breakfast, £20 dinner allowance and free round on the Derby for just £149 per person.

Shortly after the course opening, at the 1978 Hennessy Cup, swashbuckling Spaniard Seve Ballesteros started his love affair with The Brabazon and instantly put it under the media spotlight when he became the first player to drive the now-famous par-4, 10th hole – a feat now attempted by golfers visiting from all over the world.

The first of four Ryder Cups on The Brabazon followed in 1985 when Tony Jacklin’s European team overcame a star-studded U.S. side, with Sam Torrance’s 20-foot birdie putt sealing victory on the final green. Four years later, in 1989, Irishman Christy O’Connor Jr stole the show with one of the most cherished Ryder Cup moments, firing a sublime 2-iron from 229 yards to just four feet on the 18th, as the contest ended in a tie.

An American victory – spearheaded by a spirited Paul Azinger – followed in 1993, before the European teamed claimed a famous triumph in The Belfry’s fourth Ryder Cup, in 2002. Sam Torrance’s European side overcame a U.S. team featuring Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, with Irishman Paul McGinley holing the winning putt and celebrating in the lake in front of the 18th green.

Whilst the resort is known as the spiritual home of the Ryder Cup, it is no stranger to high-profile European Tour events, with 11 in total being held at The Belfry between 1989 and 2008. The English Open has seen winners like Mark James and David Gilford, whilst the Benson & Hedges International Open witnessed champions from across the world, including Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal, Swede Henrik Stenson, Argentinian Angel Cabrera and Englishman Paul Casey.
