England’s Leading Resort, The Belfry Hotel & Resort has unveiled a brand new state of the art spin studio to add to their ever growing list of leisure offerings.
Having just witnessed British cycling history at the Tour de France, and with the Olympics just days away, the feel good factor around cycling is there for all to see.
Whilst The Belfry cannot guarantee the spin classes will instantly propel guests to Olympic level, the high quality of equipment and teaching will certainly give inspiration to an Olympic standard. Guests are also now spoilt for choice when it comes to booking in a class, as the new studio means that the resort is offering 47 spin classes a week, up from 13.
With spinning fast becoming one of the most popular forms of working out in the UK, The Belfry’s new studio has been fully equipped with a sound and lighting system to enhance user’s experience that much more. The 30 bikes themselves are all made by Star Trac, leading manufacturer of cardio and exercise equipment.
The class programmes are created by Les Mills, global leaders in fitness and training, who create tailored fitness programmes and then mix great music and cutting edge science to ensure participants get full value for money at each spin class.
The classes follow an RPM programme, which uses stimulated climbs and sprints in a workout where the individual controls the intensity. A cycling workout which delivers maximum results with minimum impact on joints, RPM classes drastically improve aerobic fitness and burn calories and fat.
Also on offer in the spin studio will be the highly interactive virtual classes. These are video based classes with a large projection shown on the wall displaying videos and making those spinning feel like they’re racing through virtual routes, transforming riders from the class to the hillsides. Ideal for fitness workouts outside peak times, these instructor-less classes allow maximum numbers whenever there is the demand.
This exciting method of exercise provides a different and more attractive element to working out. Adding to the impressive list of options available at the resort to avid fitness lovers such as the gym, the pool and personal training classes, the new and improved spin studio will no doubt be a huge hit with gym goers at The Belfry.

The Belfry Hotel & Resort has been nominated for three awards at the World Travel Awards 2016. Having been crowned as England’s Leading Resort last year, The Belfry is looking to regain this title, with aspirations in being named Europe’s Leading Resort and adding England’s Leading Conference Hotel to their growing number of accolades.
The awards look to promote and develop the global travel and tourism industry by recognising excellence within leading resorts. Searching for resorts that boast world class facilities along with leisure attractions and services of a similar standard, the nominations underline The Belfry’s status amongst Europe’s elite.
The iconic Belfry resort is situated amongst 550 acres of stunning Warwickshire countryside and is most famous for its’ golfing prowess, being the only venue to have ever hosted the Ryder Cup four times. With three golf courses and an academy, The Belfry certainly caters for all golf enthusiasts. But it is away from the golf courses that The Belfry has built a stellar reputation in the resort and conference hotel world.
With 319 signature bedrooms, 14 luxury suites and 22 conference and meeting rooms, the standard of accommodation and event space is a real draw to guests of the resort. As well as this, the recent opening of Rocca’s Pizza Pasta restaurant adds yet another string to the bow of The Belfry’s impressive culinary experience. The renowned Brabazon Bar is also the place to go for a well-earned drink or delicious afternoon tea.
Additionally, the kids are looked after at The Belfry, with a beautiful woodland trail, playground and a brand new Ryder Legends miniature golf course, keeping them entertained at all times.
Upon receiving the nominations, Marketing Director Gail Webb commented, “To be shortlisted in three separate categories at such prestigious awards is a tremendous honour and a fantastic reflection of how much hard work has gone into making The Belfry the world class resort that it is.”
Considering the all-round package on offer at The Belfry Hotel & Resort and the world class leisure services and facilities available to guests, the resort looks set to be extremely difficult to beat as they attempt to add more prestigious awards to their already impressive repertoire.
Recently voted as ‘England’s Best Golf Course’ at last year’s World Golf Awards, the legendary Brabazon course, has received yet further praise. On this occasion, the plaudits have come from the 59Club benchmarking programme, scoring extremely high for the immaculate course conditioning. This however hasn’t stopped The Belfry’s Director of Golf Courses, Angus Macleod and his expert team of green staff resting on their laurels; undertaking a series of course improvements to reinvigorate the world’s only 4-time Ryder Cup host course.
The 59Club conducts ‘Mystery Shopper’ audits at leading venues across the UK to provide an industry standard for quality of facilities and level of service, allowing golf resorts to benchmark their performance against competitor venues. This process accounts for every aspect of the golf experience, from the initial booking, through to the welcome, course condition and post-golf facilities.
The Brabazon course has received exceptional results from the 59Club, with a 2015 audit score of 92.8%, including an incredible 98.5% in the October audit for its pristine conditioning and playability. The impressive full year audit score was well above the 85% threshold required for a Gold Standard performance.
Ian Knox, The Belfry’s Director of Golf, commented: “This incredible feedback that we have received for the impeccable standards of the golf courses, specifically The Brabazon, is just testament to the continued outstanding work of Angus and his team. Their knowledge and commitment is second to none, and I share their excitement in continuing to improve The Brabazon experience for our guests.”
Despite these accolades for The Brabazon, Angus Macleod and his team of green staff have been working on a series of improvements to certain holes in order to enhance the course’s visual appeal and playability. This has been specifically apparent on the iconic risk-and-reward 10th hole, where three individual bunkers have been installed, in place of the one large bunker around the green, reminiscent of how they were during the 2002 Ryder Cup.
“The 10th hole will always be well-known across the world, but we wanted to bring a modern twist to the design in order to create more of a visual impact from the tee,” stated Macleod. “So we have gone back to three ‘affinity’ bunkers around the green, which sit tight to the sides of the green, but have not compromised the shape.”
Further changes have been made to the 11th hole, where Macleod and his team have designed three new bunkers, two on the right, one on the left, in place of the two that were there previously, to better frame the green. “Following the world famous 10th hole, the 11th was a little pedestrian and the bunkers around the green weren’t of the best quality, so we felt that these changes bring the approach shot to life by aligning the green with the fairway and giving the golfer something to think about.”
Finally, the water feature on the 12th hole is going to be modernised to freshen the look of the challenging Par 3. “We are redesigning the water feature to the right of the green, so that the water will cascade down onto the rocks below. Our aim is to make this into more of a three dimensional hazard, which catches the eye from the tee.”
“We wanted to utilise all of the team’s understanding of the golf course to implement changes that will enhance golfers’ experiences, whilst continuing to improve playability. We wanted to be bold with the changes that we made, but obviously didn’t want to take anything away from the legendary layout,” summarised Macleod.
The renowned Midland’s venue, The Belfry Hotel & Resort, has further underlined its standing as one of the country’s leading resorts by receiving a highly-sought Gold Flag Award at the annual 59Club Service Excellence Awards.
The Belfry was one of only five golf resorts in the UK to receive this impressive accolade at the Awards Ceremony, and follows on from a host of further awards that the resort claimed in 2015, where it was named as ‘England’s Leading Resort’ at the World Travel Awards and ‘England’s Leading Golf Hotel’ at the World Golf Awards.
Setting the benchmark for all-round golf service delivery across the UK, the 59Club Awards recognise venues for their commitment to client satisfaction through a number of criteria from golf course preparation, to food & beverage preparation, and phone call analysis, to name just a few.
Each resort is marked independently by a panel of ’mystery’ visitors and members to ensure that a fair, unbiased, and accurate representation of customer service is accumulated, with the ultimate aim of improving or maintaining the highest-levels of customer service and satisfaction throughout the industry.
To achieve the honour of receiving a Gold Flag Award, resorts must score above the threshold of 85% across these ‘mystery’ visits, and The Belfry has continued to set impeccable standard of service delivery to meet and exceed the levels required for this accolade.
Ian Knox, Director of Golf at The Belfry commented: “The 59Club Awards serve as a great benchmarking tool for all resorts within the industry and we are always striving to make the gold standard by exceeding our levels of customer service throughout the year.
The Gold Flag Award is a great achievement and I am delighted for the whole team across the resort. From the outstanding work of Angus Macleod and his team of greenkeepers across all three courses, to the reception, bar, and kitchen staff – every individual works incredibly hard to ensure we deliver unforgettable experiences for each and every guest.”

The Scotsman conducted a series of videos across the renowned Midlands resort and famous Brabazon course, reminiscing about his memories from The Belfry over the years, in particular the incredible atmosphere he experienced on the first tee, and the victory celebrations in 1985 and 2002.
He also recreated a number of his most iconic shots out on the course, including his drive onto the green of the notorious par-4 10th hole, and his much-celebrated 18-foot putt on the 18th green in 1985, which secured victory for the European Team.
“It’s great to be back here at The Belfry. I have so many fond memories of the resort and the golf course from my four Ryder Cups here – whether it be holing the winning putt in 1985 or witnessing Paul McGinley hole that famous 10-footer in 2002,” remarked Torrance.
“It will always have a special place in my heart, and without doubt, it is definitely the spiritual home of the Ryder Cup in Europe, and the recent developments just bring everything in line with some of the world’s best golf resorts.”

Synonymous with the leading names in golf, The Belfry Hotel & Resort has extended its partnership with one of the most recognisable brands in the game, Club Car. The luxurious Midlands resort has taken delivery of 80 state-of-the-art Precedent i3 vehicles, which are set to take golfing experiences at The Belfry to the next level.
Golfers will be able to hire one of the new vehicles across the three courses at The Belfry and experience the ultimate in comfort, stability and experience while playing on the world-famous Brabazon, PGA National and Derby layouts.
The Precedent i3 vehicles provide a host of benefits for golfers with the inclusion of its market-leading Visage technology. The in-built GPS system provides accurate yardages for each shot, as well as a full flyover of the hole as you move on to the next tee.
The interactive touch screen also allows golfers to keep updated with live leaderboards, while its innovative two-way communication system gives the opportunity to order food and drink wherever you are on the course.
The new vehicles also provide benefits for The Belfry team, specifically relating to the Visage system’s ability to limit access of the vehicles to certain areas of the course, protecting teeing areas and approaches. In addition, the technology enables the Course Manager to monitor pace of play across all three courses.
Ian Knox, Director of Golf at The Belfry, commented: “We are delighted to have extended our partnership with Club Car. Here at The Belfry, we always want to align ourselves with leading brands that aim to provide the ultimate golfing experiences, and Club Car certainly fits that profile.
“We have a long-standing relationship with Club Car, while the staff at the company’s official distributor, CaddyCars, have always provided excellent service and first-class vehicles that any golfer visiting The Belfry can rely on. The new fleet certainly delivers the next level of experience for guests on any of our three courses and provides advanced monitoring systems to help ensure everything runs smoothly.”
Kevin Hart, Sales Director Golf, Club Car - Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “The Belfry is the only venue to host The Ryder Cup on four separate occasions, while Club Car has acted as the Official Supplier at every Ryder Cup since 1995. This shared heritage of successfully delivering one of the world’s biggest sporting events, along with the importance of providing an unrivalled level of customer service, has helped to establish a successful relationship between The Belfry and Club Car and we look forward to continuing this partnership.”
